The Word of God

January 4, 2022

Good morning brothers and sisters!

I would like to talk this evening about a subject that is near and dear to my heart and I pray that it is to yours as well, the Bible. I had rather lose both arms and legs than to lose my ability to read and hear the Word of God; that is how passionate I am about this wonderful Book.

The Bible is the most loved, translated, sold and also the most feared Book known to mankind. Down through the ages Satan has used kings, rulers, government and even some authorities within the church to try to stop the power of the Word of God. But just as the Bible itself tells us in Psalms 119:89 For ever, O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven God has kept and preserved it. No other Book in all of man’s history can boast of the intense satisfaction that the reader of this treasure finds in its ancient wisdom. Second only to the indwelling of the Holy Ghost as the most precious gift to those that are called by His name, the Bible continues to bring comfort and hope to the world.

Here are just a few Scriptures that I like where the word of God is symbolized to be sustaining to our physical as well as our spiritual health.

Again, we turn to the Psalms:

Psalm 12:6 The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. 7 Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.

Psalm 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

The Bible provides clarity and directions for the Christian daily walk and serves as a road map through the journey of life. His Word is unchanging, but it provides the change the sin-sick soul requires.

Jeremiah 15:16 Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O Lord God of hosts.

His words are to be devoured in the sense that we are to take them in to ourselves just as food gives our bodies strength so does the Word give us spiritual strength.

Ephesians 6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

God’s word is part of our full armor of protection it is the sword of the Spirit. We are in spiritual warfare with Satan every day that can only be defeated with the word of God. When Jesus was tempted in the wilderness (Luke 4:1-12) the only weapon He used against the Devil was the word of God; it is all that we need too. The “helmet of salvation” is to protect the mind against the attack of the evil spirits. It surrounds the head and keeps us protected for the lies of the enemy.

1Peter 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

The Word of God is both life itself and the hope of the eternal life forever in His presence. The Bible is an amazing Book that brings new clarity each and every time it is read. The Spirit reveals new truths as we need them.

James 1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. 23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass 24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.

If we look to the Bible for guidance, the word read will reflect in our lives. It is not enough to simply hear the Word of God but we must live it to show that the love of God is in us. To be called Christ-ian is to take the name of the LORD to ourselves. We are not to take His name in vain or for nothing. Good works are to follow the Good Word revealed in the heart.

Ephesians 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. And again: James 2:26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

The Bible is vital for a strong church!

2 Timothy 3:14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; 15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is pofitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

Everything that we need to know to lead a successful happy life is contained in the pages of the Bible. To know the Bible is to know God; He lives in the pages of the Bible and He still speaks through them to those who are willing to hear. No Christian walk is complete without this amazing Book!

Take my word for nothing; go to the Source and read it for yourself. And as always to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ be all the Glory forever.
